Hotels, inns and shanties were not only places of rest, food and shelter but a place for people to meet. The Upper Lachlan is blessed with many such establishments and even today they offer the weary traveller a place to relax and rejuvenate....
During the 1800’s travel to and through the Shire was by horseback, bullock team or horse and dray. 10 miles was about as far as a bullock team could travel without a rest and hence the Shire was dotted with inns, hotels, pubs, sly grog shops, shanties and kitchens offering food, shelter and refreshments - although many weren’t registered.
Pub style accommodation offers a one stop shop for meals and refreshments as well as comfortable rooms and amenities. There are still pubs strategically located around the Shire offering a warm welcome to travellers of all types.
