Two minutes from the Hume Highway west of Goulburn and a leisurely hour’s drive from Canberra, lies Gunning, a centre of NSW’s fine wool growing.

Until 1820 Gunning was the “Limit of Settlement” and settlers could not acquire property beyond this point. In 1824 Hume and Hovell set out from the Gunning district on their pioneering expedition to Port Phillip near the site of modern day Melbourne.

Gunning has a reputation for excellent events including the annual Gunning Fireworks Festival, PA&I Show and now plays host to many equestrian events all of which utilise the excellent showground facilities.

Nestled beside Meadow Creek, Barbour Park offers free short-term stays for caravans and campers and is a very short walk to the variety food, drink and other services within town.
Gunning has a wide range of arts and antiques as well as the Gunning Historical Society’s “Pye Cottage” museum which is well worth a visit.
